Portray the entire horror of war or the inconceivability of a concentration camp even though this extreme reality of death, pain and tyranny can neither be recreated nor imitated? This is precisely what Hotel Modern aims to do. With thousands of marionettes, a model on the scale 1:20, special cameras and actors, Lager relates what life was like in Auschwitz, and the struggle to survive in these circumstances. Laconic, distanced and moving, the performance turns the audience into eye-witnesses of one day in a concentration camp.
The Dutch theatre collective Hotel Modern achieved fame for its “animations in real time”. Object theatre, drama, music, film, modelling techniques and performance art come together in their theatre works. The scenic installation outlines a collective landscape while the film enlargement.
