Ce langage figuré signifie: N'essayez pas de faire sentir les beautés immatérielles à ceux qui sont appesantis par la matière.Margaritas ante porcos (des perles devant des pourceaux) est un proverbe fréquemment employé, surtout lorsqu'il est question d'œuvres d'art jugées par un public ignorant ou grossier.
